NYC-based stylist and Founder of The EveryBody Wrap® Elizabeth Kosich lives in a unique apartment in Manhattan, complete with a rare wood burning fireplace:
What was your vision for the space?
I consider myself lucky to have a wood burning fireplace in Manhattan, so created a cozy space around it with warm, organic materials like wood, seagrass, leather, linen and fur. Since the soaring 13’ ceilings can handle drama, I went with bold, Sister Parish-inspired yellow walls reminiscent of grand Park Avenue homes. I chose yellow for its healing powers too, since prior to this move most of my belongings were lost to fire, theft and mold. The loss was devastating so I purposely designed this space to radiate happiness, optimism and willpower — and it worked! A little color therapy and Hygge go a long way.
Where did you source each piece?
My decor style is a combination of high, low, old and new. This room is anchored by a Jonathan Adler Lampert Sofa in canary yellow linen upholstery. I bought the 1930s French leather club chairs in Provence over 20 years ago, and the animal skin rug is from a trip to South Africa. The Christian Liaigre stool is the most popular seat when I entertain, and the 19th century French armoire was purchased off the internet sight unseen. I’m a big art enthusiast with a growing collection so acquire pieces from anywhere and everywhere — dealers, auctions, stores, markets, antique shows, or from the artists themselves.
Tips for others creating a similar look?
Don’t be scared of color, but limit your palette to 1 dominant color and 2 neutrals that complement it (yellow + brown & white in my case). Balance the palette with natural elements to temper the color boldness, add texture and keep the look grounded. Use art and books for interesting focal points and to pull all elements together. The most authentic spaces reflect a global footprint, so use travel to collect experiences and things.
